Pre–Lent Party – 16th February, 2017

What a great night we had at the Pre-Lent Party in the school. New games such as the Wheel of Fortune and Karaoke Madness kept children and parents happy who turned out in great numbers to support our main annual fundraiser.    Congratulations to all our raffle draw winners James Cullen, Faye Nolan, Caitlín and Niamh Williamson, Mary Nolan, Freddie Tamplin, Sandra Perry, Cian Prenderville, Odhrán McCann, Eva Britton McDyre, Joe Brennan, Bernie McGrory, Ellie Robinson, Una Faulkner and Conall Parsons.  We had many great prizes and a thank you to all businesses, families and staff who contributed in any way and for the mammoth effort that went into organising this event. We would like to thank the following businesses for their continued support: Allianz Insurance C/o Mairead Mc Groarty,  Britton’s Pharmacy, Begley’s Pharmacy, Dunlevy’s Gift World, Tara Dorrian Bespoke Hair Design, Blás @ the Gateway Lodge, DT Fitness, Dom’s @ Pier 1, All Sports, Granny Mac’s, Padraic Lenehan & Donegal Creameries, Enda Healy & Source Engineering and Value Centre  Letterkenny, McNultys XL Store and Scoil An Linbh Iosa for donating school swimming and book rental vouchers.   Profit from the night was €1411.  May we thank our hard working committee and volunteers on another great job.  Well done to everyone involved.

Master Nolan – 25th Anniversary

It is with great pride that we acknowledged and celebrated Master Nolan’s 25 years of being Principal of  Scoil An Linbh Íosa in the staff room on the 17th February.  A covert and surprise rendezvous was co-ordinated by our fabulous Secretary Eileen Griffin who ensured that Staff, Board of Management, Fr Mc Loone, the Nolan Family and the Parents’ Association were all there to acknowledge this wonderful achievement and surprise Master Nolan.    The PA gave Master Nolan a framed presentation and organised a wonderful novelty cake courtesy of Geraldine McGroary Cake Designs.  Being  Principal of a school for 25 years is an enormous achievement and one which we are all very proud of.

Confirmation Class

Well done to Sixth Class on the celebration of their Confirmation on 4th March.  Many thanks to all the PA Committee and Volunteers; Nicola and Jennifer Martin, Vicky Jervis, Lisa McCabe, Joanne Quinn, Gayle Mc Gonagle, Rosaleen Mc Dermott, Una Faulkner, Regina Doherty, Eithne Parsons, Nuala Mc Cauley, Roisin Cleary, Cora O’Reilly, Annette Brady and Deirdre Byrne.  Thanks to Greg Doherty for putting up and taking down the gazebo.  A sincere thanks to all who donated home-baking.  The reception afterwards was well attended and much appreciated by all Sixth Class families, relatives and friends.

On the evening of their last prayer meeting; Wednesday 8th March, each Sixth Class pupil received a personalised engraved pen from the Parents’ Association to mark the occasion of their Confirmation.  This is in recognition of their hard work and to wish them well in their further studies at Secondary School this September.  Mrs. Canny has received a thank you card and gift from the Parents’ Association on behalf of the pupils and their families for all her great work in helping them prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.

First Confession

Well done to the pupils of Second Class who made their First Penance on Thursday 9th March.  Thank you to Mrs. Brady and Mrs. Mc Cann for their great work preparing the children for this occasion.  They are now busy preparing for their First Holy Communion on 6th May.

St. Patrick’s Day Entry Preparation

The energy is electrifying and the preparations for this year’s entry are well under way being very well organised by our hard working committee namely; Kerry Gallagher, Alison Warren, Gayle McGonagle, Bridin Jordan and Roisin Armstrong.  The amount of work involved in co-ordinating this annual event is colossal.  Well done to the St. Patrick’s Day committee in all their hard work to positively showcase our wonderful school.  With 115 children participating this year, the lively dance routines being choreographed by Andrea Keeney promises to be a fantastic display. Please send in your child’s black t-shirt if you have not done so already. Final details for those participating in the parade will be sent home early next week but in the meantime if you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact our parade co-ordinator Kerry Gallagher on (087) 1504459.

Purchase of PA Sound & Speaker System

The PA purchased the above mobile system to support our events and for the school to use. It is currently being put through its paces during the St. Patrick’s Day rehearsals and will be invaluable on the day!  It saves us from the additional costs of hiring.  We thank Jonathan McCann and Jonathan Kennedy for their advice and for co-ordinating the purchase of this system.

National Spring Clean – Beach Clean-Up

The month of April is National Spring Clean month so we are organising a clean-up of the Holmes Beach.  Keep the evening of Tuesday 4th April free and we’ll all meet up to get involved.  More details to follow closer to the date.

Car Park Safety – Reminder

Please follow the car park safety rules.  A car collided with a child in the car park during school pick up on 6th February.  Parents please remind those who are collecting your children to follow the rules and keep area in front of Chapel car free as this is a pedestrian zone only during drop off and pick up.  Please ensure that there are no children near your car when taking off or reversing into car park spot.

School Levy

The annual school levy of €15 per family will be due for payment before the end of March.  A note will be going home shortly.   Please ensure that you clearly write your children’s names on an envelope together with the payment and give to your eldest child.

Condolences

Our condolences to Mary and Enda Nolan and the Cormack family on the death of Mary’s father Hugh (Bertie) Cormack who passed away last week.

Annual Table Quiz

We hope to have our annual table quiz on a date in May yet to be confirmed.  This is usually a great night out for parents and well supported by our school.  Keep an eye out for the date.

First Holy Communion

Our First Holy Communion takes place on Saturday 6th May at 12pm.  Photographer Christina Irwin will be available on the day to take pictures for purchase. A note will be going home to families prior to book & secure your interest.   Once again we require help from parents for home baking and helping out on the day particularly from First and Third Class parents.  Many of our existing committee have family involved in Holy Communion this year so we need extra volunteers to help out at this event.  Please contact Regina Doherty on (087) 2978543 to volunteer.
